I’ve mentioned before that my Grandpa was an avocado rancher. A few years back he grew a tree for my parents—straight from an avocado pit. He planted it in their front yard (at the time I thought this was tacky) and then eventually he grafted it. The tree finally gave fruit—just a month after he died. My mom brought me some. I don’t think I’ve ever tasted better avocados. If butter grew on trees, this is what it would taste like.
Hallie and I had a great lunch today of avocado salad (heavy on the avocado, light on the lettuce):
Topped off with pink grapefruit:
And washed down with cinnamon toast.
I mentioned in the title this post was dedicated to my Grandparents. Why to my Grandma as well? Because I inherited her Bosch mixer that allowed me to make 5 loaves of cinnamon bread at one time. The Monstrous Mormon Mixer has always been the butt of my jokes. After all, who needs to make so much bread at once except mothers of 8? Well, my bloggy friends, I stand corrected. Even Mormon Mothers of Just 3 could use this mixer. My freezer is full of homemade cinnamon bread. At a moments notice I can grab a loaf of cinnamon bread and be in yeasty-bread heaven.
So here’s to my Grandpa’s avocados and my Grandma’s fabulous mixer. They sure made my tummy happy today.
OOOH! I love Avocado's! I have been wanting to find out if I can grow them here in NC. Somehow, I think not. I also have that same Bosch and I LOVE it. I use it at least 3 times a week. I love making multiple loaves and freezing them - pulling them out like it's convenience food. Will you post your cinnamon bread recipe? I would love to make it.
ReplyDeleteBTW, I love the pillows you did also. What I would give for even one of your talents.
ReplyDeleteLooks so yummy!

ReplyDeletei love your blog ;-)) i, too, have a bosch, however it's the very old *universal* bosch ... i have had it about 35 years, bought it in prince george, bc, USED, when my kids were small and baked 10+ loaves a bread a week for years and years ... i paid something like, $400 CD (canadian dollars) for it and it's never needed anything -- no grease, no bearings (ooooh ... i hope i'm not jinxing it!!) ... oh, yea, i forgot, i broke the top band that goes over the bowl (on the old ones that's what it does) and found a new one at a bosch shop in twin falls, where a daughter lives ... i have to say that all my daughters own one and love it, too!
ReplyDeletethanks for the post ... i love your pillows, too, as well as avocados, which could become a meal in itself!!!
ps ... i should have added: i just bought some anna maria horner, *little folks* voile to add to the navy cashmere for scarfs for gifts this winter; i love your scarfs, they are so beautiful! you have great ideas ....
ReplyDeleteJust like the lemons, we are MORE than willing to take any excess avocados off your hands!?! (And any excess yummy bread for that matter. :)) My kind o' girl! :)
ReplyDeleteOf course those avocados were shipped personal express by her papa, which I did with great pleasure. I am not an avocado fan, but these fruit are especially meaningful considering the trees origin, so....even I eat them and can tell they are SUPERIOR! For midnight hysteria's benefit: this Bosch IS a universal. My mother and I bought them within a year of each other at the same store in Riverside, California (Mum's Magic Mill). That was at least around 1990, maybe earlier. We bought a Cuisanart DLC-7 Super Pro it seems around the same time, and the sales receipt says 1984. Yes, the Cuisart is still running strong, too.
ReplyDeletebosches ARE wonderful ... thanks for the comments ... people cannot believe my bosch is still going strong ... it's for sure the one before your, because it has a dial on it for the 2 speeds and the pulse instead of the electronic buttons ... the lid also is on the outside of the bowl (it goes around the top rather than inside) ... my darling daughters have one similar to yours ... though, it really mattereth not, they all work well ... i'm on a bread baking list and every once in a while, someone will ask for the best mixer, we all chime in *BOSCH* .... LOL ....
ReplyDeletemidnight--yes, i am a convert to the bosch for bread making! may mine last a least as long as yours. or at least long enough to bake as many loaves as my grandma made in it.
ReplyDeletecasey--pulling out loaves from the freezer IS like convenience food!
I bought this mexact Bosch machine 20 years ago and it's still going strong. We use it everyday. I love it and will be sad if it ever dies.
